Sorry we're a couple of weeks adrift with this reference, but there were several 14th August anniversaries including Big Bill Broonzy and David Crosby, so we held Buddy over for a spare day. Born Armando Greco in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on August 14th 1926, he was playing piano at the age of four, became a child radio star and started working for Benny Goodman in the 1940s, appearing with him at the London Palladium in 1950. He moved on to become a singer as well as pianist, and over the years forged a career as a versatile and extrovert cabaret and concert star. He had a million-selling single with "The Lady Is A Tramp" and has recorded well over 60 albums, his favourite being one made with the London Symphony Orchestra. He became a fixture in the Las Vegas casinos, and opened his own club in California, performing there until its closure in 2009. He has received numerous awards and is still actively performing at the age of 84. Acrobat has on catalogue an album of his recordings from the '90s, along with a recently released CD comprising two rare LPs of his from the '80s. - for details click here.
