Aaron Neville, American R&B and soul singer, was born on 24th January 1941
Born on 24th January 1941 in New Orleans, of mixed African/American and Native American heritage, Aaron neville inevitably grew up with a variety of musical influences, including Cajun and Creole as well as the jazz, blues and R&B music endemic to the region. He made his first records in 1960, recording and performing with modest success until he came to national prominence in 1967 with "Tell it like it is", which was an R&B No. 1 and reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, selling over a million copies. In the '70s he performed and recorded as a member of the Neville Brothers, bu did not return to the charts until his series of duets in the 1980s with Linda Ronstadt - a format he successully repeated with other country-oriented artists such as Trisha Yearwood and Robbie Robertson. He was back in the Top 10 in 1991 with "Everybody plays the fool". A long-time resident of New Orleans, he regularly topped the bill at the annual Jazz and Heritage Festival, until he was forced to move when his home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He moved temporarily to Nashville, but has since relocated back to his home town. He has worked regularly in movies, TV and sporting events, singing "The Star-Spangkled Banner" with Aretha Franklin and Dr. John at the 2006 Super Bowl.
