Rare London Musicals of the 50s
Various Artists
Styles: Films & Shows
Catalogue Number: ACMCD4369
This CD brings together three stage musicals presented in London’s West End during the 1950s which, despite their success at the time, and undoubted quality of their composers and casts, have not been widely available on CD. Included are seven songs from “Wonderful Town” the Leonard Bernstein/Betty Comden/Adolph Green 1955 Princes Theatre show which had enjoyed a successful Broadway run, sixteen songs from “Lock Up Your Daughters”, Lionel Bart and Laurie Johnson’s 1959 musical staged at the Mermaid Theatre based on Bernard Miles’ adaptation of a Henry Fielding comedy, which have never been together on CD and six songs from “When In Rome”, presented at the Adelphi in 1959 which have never been on CD at all. Also included are three collectable bonus tracks from other shows or films which are not readily available. Musical theatre finds a ready market among a sizeable core of devotees, and these collectable recordings should create considerable interest. |
