Spike Jones & His City Slickers
Styles: Comedy, Fabulous
Catalogue Number: FABCD116

Bandleader Spike Jones had a string of hits during the 1940s and early '50s with his hilarious send-ups of current popualr songs and classical pieces. All manner of artists and material got the merciless Jones treatment, always with Jones' wild percussion and bizarre sound effects to the fore, and often satirising the artists by name. The title track was one of his first big hits, using Mel Blanc, the voice of Bugs Bunny, in a raucous and incongrous rendering of the romantic ballad "Cocktails For Two". This collection includes most of his best-known spoofs and makes for  hilarious listening, the humour still ringing true 60 years or more after they were made.
