The Bournemouth Gilbert and Sullivan Society were founded in 1947. Its first production was “HMS Pinafore” which was performed in Bournemouth Town Hall.In 1949 they moved to the new Royal Theatre and then to the Palace Court Theatre. Since 1978 productions have been at the Towngate Theatre in the Poole Arts Centre which became Poole’s Centre for the Arts - The Lighthouse in 2002. Over the past 57 years the society has performed most of Gilbert and Sullivan’s work often more than once.During the year the society put on a series of concerts featuring many of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most popular songs and in the autumn a major G&S production is staged. In 2005 it will be “The Pirates of Penzance” which they last performed in 1995. The show for 2003 was “Yeoman Of The Guard” and in 2004 “Ruddigore”. Selections from all three are featured on this CD of performances from this great amateur society.
